Auction stuff all the time! As you know, AH usually gives much more money for an item that selling to a NPC vendor, but the trouble is that you're not always near an AH. You end up selling much of your collected stuff to a NPC vendor after all, just to clear up some space in your backpack. I've found (from a tip I read) that creating another character and putting that character in Orgrimmar just beside the AH and the mailbox is an excellent solution to this problem. I've leveled that character up to lvl 5 and selected Enchanting as a profession. At level 5 you can disenchant green stuff that you're unable to sell at a proper price in AH, and thus earning money on the separate enchantment ingredients instead. Remember that only stuff with gray names should be sold to a NPC vendor, everything else can be mailed to your AH character. You will quickly see that you earn much more money this way. If, after a couple tries, you're unable to sell it at AH and it's not possible to disenchant it, simply let the AH character sell it to a NPC vendor. Every time I am finished playing my main character (Baday) for the night, I log onto the AH character and collects all the mail I've gotten from Baday this evening. I use a AH AddOn which is great for suggesting the appropriate prices for my items. I also collect the money from previously sold items, and end the session with sending some gold back to Baday. It only takes about 15 min.
Cheers!
